Auburn’s women have won the SEC title 10 times in the 40-year history of women’s golf in that conference, but before Sunday, the Tigers hadn’t claimed the league crown since 2012. They took care of that on a marathon week at Greystone Golf Club in Birmingham, Alabama, defeating Mississippi State in the final match to win another SEC title.

Auburn arguably won the day on the greens, getting off to a bit of a slow start against Mississippi State but slowly flipping each match to the point that the official score was 5-0-0.

As for Auburn, ranked No. 12, the Tigers played three rounds of stroke play in 25 under, finishing 21 shots behind stroke-play medalist LSU but taking the No. 3 seed into match play. The team knocked off Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals, 3-1-1, then took down Mississippi State.

“Just emotional management because they’re a very mature group, very experienced, they love match play. They eat it up,” head coach Melissa Luellen told the SEC Network after the win. “They just know when they’re down it’s OK and if they’re up, just keep pressing.”
