There are 33 different sports and 339 gold medals up for grabs at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Two of those gold medals will be won by golfers.
After making its return in 2016, golf is once again part of the Summer Olympics. Prior to that, golf had last been an Olympic sport in 1904.
Kasumigaseki Country Club outside Tokyo is the host venue the event. The venue is one of Japan’s most exclusive private clubs. The East Course, which is where the Olympics will be played, opened in 1929. Kasumigaseki’s West Course opened in 1932. Tom and Logan Fazio completed renovations to the East Course in 2016.

In 2017, the membership at Kasumigaseki voted to change its membership policy to include women. The vote came three days after the IOC warned the club of consequences for upholding a ban on female members.
First up: the men’s competition, a 72-hole stroke play event, July 28-31. The women’s competition will also be 72 holes, Aug. 3-6.
