The celebrity golf tournament will be a little more ‘Curry-ier’ this summer.
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry, who has played in the event eight times, along with his father, Dell Curry, who played six times, will be joined by his younger brother, Seth Curry, making his debut at Edgewood-Tahoe in the American Century Championship, held July 7-11.
Seth Curry is a guard with the Philadelphia 76ers, who lost to the Atlanta Hawks in June in the NBA playoffs.
They join Justin Timberlake, Annika Sorenstam, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Tony Romo, Michael Strahan, and Charles Barkley in the lineup of 90 sports and entertainment celebrities.
Steph Curry’s best finish in the tournament is fourth, three times, including last year. He had the best final round in 2020 of any player in the 54-hole tournament, scoring 26 points in the Modified Stableford format. Curry will also be one of the leading choices in the sportsbooks this summer.
The event features a $600,000 purse with $125,000 to the winner. Many of the players contribute their winnings to non-profits. The American Century Championship has donated over $5.5 million to non-profits since its inception.
In recent years, Steph and Dell have had a wager with the loser having to dive into Lake Tahoe or singing the winner’s choice of song at karaoke night before a large group. The wager this year is to be determined in conjunction with Seth’s participation.

The tournament was conducted in 2020 without spectators amidst the global pandemic and raised $600,000 for COVID-19 and social justice charities.
Including limits on tickets this year, multiple precautions will be taken by event officials and sponsors to ensure health and safety for all participants and attendees.
In addition to Seth Curry, first-timers to the tournament include Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, two-time New York Giants Super Bowl Champions Strahan and teammate Justin Tuck, and former New York Yankees star pitcher CC Sabathia.
The field collectively represents 17 Hall of Famers, 13 Most Valuable Player awards and 15 Cy Young Awards, and eight Player of the Year Awards.
Last year, winner Mardy Fish had 76 points, after a record-setting second round with 37 points.
Kyle Williams finished second in 2020 with 67 points and John Smoltz was third with 58. Steph’s father, Dell Curry, finished tied for seventh with 50 points in the Modified Stableford scoring system.
They are in a celebrity field that is among the best in tournament history this year with Justin Timberlake, Tony Romo, Annika Sorenstam, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Charles Barkley, Canelo, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Larry the Cable Guy and Ray Romano in the field.
The field collectively has 16 Hall of Famers, 13 Most Valuable Player winners, 15 Cy Young Award winners and eight Player of the Year winners.
In addition to Seth Curry, first-time players this year include: Derek Carr, Taysom Hill, Sean McDermitt, CC Sabathia, Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck and Andre Whitworth.
The tournament
The tournament will be televised live from Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, its home since the 1990 inaugural event, on NBCSN from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, July 9; and on NBC from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11. Additional coverage will be provided by Golf Channel through the course of the week.
The 2021 American Century Championship will utilize the Modified Stableford format whereby points are awarded as follows: 10 for a double eagle, 8 for a hole in one, 3 for a birdie, 1 for par, 0 for bogey, and minus 2 for double bogey.

New this year, fans can participate in the American Century Championship Fantasy Golf Contest, accfantasygolf.com, where they can pick a team of five celebrity players and have a chance to win tickets/airfare/hotel to next year’s tournament plus $10,000 for their charity of choice.
