Phil Mickelson is one of the most decorated golfers the sport has ever seen. Currently holding six Major titles, the left-hander ranks eighth on the list for all-time victories on the PGA Tour with 45. He is the oldest ever Major Championship winner, claiming the 2021 PGA Championship at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 7 days. Securing his first PGA Tour title in 1991, there has been one constant factor throughout Phil's career and that is his wife, Amy, who he met in 1992. Get to know her here.

Meeting way back in 1992, the couple both attended Arizona State University. At the time, Phil was a senior and Amy was a junior as well as a cheerleader on the Phoenix Suns NBA Cheerleading squad. She said; “When he told me he was a pro golfer, I thought he worked in the shop at a golf course.” The pair married four years later in 1996 and have gone on to have three children. The first, Amanda, was born a day after Phil came second at the 1999 US Open to Payne Stewart. Sophia was born in 2001 and finally Evan was born in 2003. Due to complications at the birth, Amy unfortunately ruptured an artery and Evan was not breathing for a while, but thankfully both pulled through.

In 2009, Amy was sadly diagnosed with breast cancer and, as a result, Phil suspended his participation on the PGA Tour. She returned to watching her husband play golf in 2010 at the Masters, where Phil would win his third Green Jacket.

After an 11-month battle, Amy beat cancer and has a clean bill of heath. Because of her experience with this awful disease, Amy has been heavily involved in fund-raising for breast cancer research.

Phil and his family celebrate his 2013 Open Championship victory

In 2004, the couple set up the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation, with their objectives being to give support to youths and families through a variety of initiatives.

It has also raised money for military charities and, in 2019, The Mickelson Foundation became the host organisation of The American Express PGA Tour event, meaning that Phil joined the likes of Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer as the only PGA Tour players to host an official event. The first year was a massive success, with $1 million being raised for charities in the Coachella Valley.
