In his statement, Mickelson poured his heart out and apologized. But towards the end of his statement, he said, “The past 10 years I have felt the pressure and stress slowly affecting me at a deeper level. I know I have not been my best and desperately need some time away to prioritize the ones I love most and work on being the man I want to be.”

Many believe Phil hinted at him taking some time off from golf. However, a concrete update on the beginning and the end of his speculated sabbatical is yet to make headlines.

Will he be back for the 2022 Masters? Only time will tell.

Mickelson creates history

Last year, Mickelson won the 2021 PGA Championship in an emphatic fashion. With his win, he became the oldest major championship winner, breaking the record of Julius Boros.

Julius earlier won the 1968 PGA Championship at 48. However, Phil won the 2021 PGA Championship aged 50. The American professional won the event with an overall score of  six-under-par, with a two-shot lead.

But while that is a moment of history, all eyes now shift to Phil’s future. When do you think Phil Mickelson will return to competitive golf?
