“Arnold was a guy I really looked up to and tried to emulate and admired the way he played the game,” said Mickelson. He shared how much influence the legendary golfer had on him with the press before his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2012.

Mickelson explained that he admired everything Palmer had done for his game as well as for the audience. “The way he handled himself, the way he treated other professionals and everybody,” Lefty added.

Phil further added that he began to admire Palmer the U. S. Open of 1994; It was his first-ever U. S. Open, whereas Palmer’s last one. Mickelson continued, “Watching him treat the volunteers to an hour-and-a-half discussion and autograph session, picture session when he didn’t have to do it.

Lefty explained he learned commitment towards the audience is as important as playing good golf from there.

Open in 1994. And he has been practicing the same after all these years. It is one of the reasons Mickelson is considered the people’s champion.
