Phil Mickelson once batted at the Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox

According to the PGA Tour, Mickelson is also the second tour player to throw the ceremonial pitch at Fenway Park. Interestingly, this happened before that week’s Rex Sox and New York Yankees game.

Mickelson threw with his right hand that day, though he uses his left one to swing. The 45-time PGA Tour winner ended up taking batting practice the very same day.

Having said that, Mickelson has always been interested in baseball. In fact, the PGA Tour star was connected to a group looking to buy the San Diego Padres. While Mickelson did end up  buying the team with a group, that partnership was short-lived. As per reports, Mickelson’s commitment to golf would prevent him from giving the Padres a good chunk of his attention.

Furthermore, Mickelson is known to be a Red Sox fan.

Mickelson also batted in 2019

His time at Fenway Park was not the only time Mickelson batted for a baseball team during practice. Back in 2019, Mickelson was with the Minnesota Twins for some batting practice. This time, however, he was present to promote the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

The six-time major winner shared the video on Twitter himself. He added that though he is there to promote, and cannot pass up this opportunity as well.

That being said, Mickelson last played the Farmers Insurance Open this year. Having missed the cut, Mickelson has been on a break ever since. Unfortunately, owing to various reasons, there is no fixed date for Mickelson’s return.
