Jon Rahm wins 2023 Masters at Augusta National for second major title, will return to world No. 1

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jon Rahm is reigning over professional golf once again.

The 28-year-old big man from the Basque region in Spain overcame a two-shot deficit to 54-hole leader Brooks Koepka and beat the rest of the world-class field at the 2023 Masters for his second major championship.

Rahm shot a final-round 3-under 69 at Augusta National Golf Club to win by four shots over Koepka and Phil Mickelson, who fired a 7-under 65 on Sunday to leap up the leaderboard and tie Koepka at 8 under for the tournament.

With the victory, Rahm will reclaim the top spot of the Official World Golf Ranking for the fifth time in his career.

Back in 2021, Rahm became the first Spanish player to win the U.S. Open, and his win at this year’s Masters makes him the fourth Spaniard to don the green jacket, joining Sergio Garcia (2017), José María Olazábal (1994, 1999) and the legendary Seve Ballesteros (1980, 1983).
