AUGUSTA, Ga. — It’s Scottie Scheffler’s world and we’re all living in it.
The world No. 1 backed up his title by winning the first men’s major championship of the year at the 2024 Masters by four shots over Ludvig Aberg on Sunday at 11 under at Augusta National Golf Club. Scheffler fired a final-round 4-under 68 to claim his second major title following his 2022 Masters win and his third victory of the calendar year.
The 27-year-old earned consecutive wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship before a T-2 in his last start at the Texas Children’s Houston Open two weeks ago on the PGA Tour. He has seven top 10s in eight starts on Tour this season with a worst finish of T-17 at the American Express back in January.
After he made the turn at 1-under on the first nine, Scheffler made four birdies on his second nine to pull away from the challengers who faltered down the stretch. In five appearances at the Masters, Scheffler has finishes of T19-T18-1-T10-1 as he continues to impress each time he tees it up at the famed course among the Georgia pines.
Speaking of pleasing the patrons, Aberg played three of the week’s four rounds under par – including a final-round 3-under 69 – in not only his first Masters start, but his first-ever major championship appearance to finish solo second. His lone round in the black was a 1-over 73 in Thursday’s first round. Collin Morikawa (74), Max Homa (73) and Tommy Fleetwood (69) finished T-3 at 4 under.
